Rajasthan Royals started their season on a disappointing note as they lost their first match to Punjab Kings by four runs. The bowlers did not perform well, but the batsmen put up an excellent performance especially their skipper Sanju Samson and almost won the team’s game.

Manan Vohra and Ben Stokes opened the innings for RR, but they failed to give a good start as Stokes got out for a duck, and Vohra also did not score much. At No.3, skipper Sanju Samson batted exceptionally well, scoring a magnificent hundred but was unlucky as he couldn’t score a boundary of the last ball and had to lose the game.

In the middle-order, Jos Buttler, Shivam Dube, and Riyan Parag scored some quick runs but couldn’t stay longer on the crease to support Samson. Chris Morris was also struggling to connect the bat to the ball in the death. The bowling department needs to improve a lot as they leaked many runs in the last match.

The debutant Chetan Sakariya bowled brilliantly, picking up three wickets and also controlled the flow of runs. Chris Morris and Riyan Parag also picked up wickets, but they also went for runs. The other bowlers also need to pick up wickets and maintain a reasonable economy rate to reduce the batting unit’s pressure.

Rajasthan Royals lack the team’s balance, and they need to improve their bowling unit, or else it would be a tough road ahead for them.

Delhi Capitals:

Delhi Capitals would be high on confidence after the comfortable win in their first match against an excellent team like Chennai Super Kings. Even in the absence of their full strength in their bowling unit, they managed to put up a decent performance with the ball and are appearing to be one of the strongest sides in this season.

Both the openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan batted brilliantly, scoring fifties and put up a partnership of 138 runs for the first wicket. After that, Pant and Stoinis comfortably finished the match.

Ajinkya Rahane and Shimron Hetmyer did not get to bat much in the middle-order but they will play a crucial role in the upcoming matches. The bowlers did a decent job of picking up wickets at regular intervals and controlled the runs’ flow to an extent.

The fast bowlers, Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan bowled well, picked up two wickets each, and did not let the batsmen score freely. Ashwin and Tom Curran also managed to pick up a wicket but they were expensive.    

Delhi Capitals would want to continue the winning momentum and repeat the same performance against the Royals and win the match.
