In the 1st ODI, Srilanka won the toss and elected to bowl. They picked up the early wicket of Sunil Ambris for just three runs in the 4th over. Even though wickets for falling at one end, Shai Hope didn’t lose his focus and scored  115 runs, and in the end, Keemo Paul’s 32 runs from 17 balls and Hayden Walsh’s 20 runs from 8 balls helped West Indies put up a total of 289 runs in 50 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Sri Lankan bowlers did a decent job of restricting the opponents to a total below 300 runs. Isuru Udana picked up 3 wickets but gave away 82 runs in his 10 overs. Nuwan Pradeep bowled economically by giving just 42 runs in his 10 overs and picked up 1 wicket. Thisara Perera picked up 1 wicket.

With 290 runs to chase, Srilanka started their innings well as Avishka Fernando 50 runs and Karunaratne 52 runs put up a 111 runs stand for the 1st wicket in 18 overs. But they lost 5 wickets in the middle overs and were 253 runs for 7 wickets after 42.4 overs, and it looked like Sri Lanka would lose the match, but Wanindu Hasaranga played brilliantly by scoring 42* runs from 39 balls and helped them to win the game by 1 wicket. Kusal Perera 42 runs and Thisara Perera 32 runs also batted well earlier in the innings.

Alzarri Joseph bowled well and picked up 3 wickets for just 42 runs in his 10 overs. Hayden Walsh and Keemo Paul picked up 2 wickets each, Jason Holder picked up 1 wicket.

This match would also be a close game because Srilanka would be eyeing on winning the series, whereas West Indies would be desperate to make a comeback and stay alive in the series.
