Abrar Ahmed made his domestic cricket debut in the 2016–17 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, representing Sindh. Initially, he struggled to find a consistent place due to injuries and competition, but his breakthrough came in the 2021–22 domestic season, where he emerged as a top wicket-taker. His impressive performances in first-class cricket, especially in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Then, after seeing his consistently good performances in domestic cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board included him in the Test series against England in December 2022.
