Rising domestic Cricketer Ashwini Kumar was born on the 29th of August, 2001 in a village called Jhanjeri in SAS Nagar District, Mohali, Punjab, is among the upcoming talents in Indian cricket known for his left arm medium pace.
And he first came into media limelight when he took 4 wickets in his IPL debut match against Kolkata on 31st March 2025.
Domestic Career
Ashwani Kumar made his first-class cricket debut in December 2019 and List A debut in December 2021 while he made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy in 2022. He claimed 11 wickets in 6 games in the Sher E Punjab T20 Cup at an average of 21.27. He claimed 4/21 while playing for Agri Kings Knights against Trident Stallions. During the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy he claimed 3/37 against Arunachal Pradesh helping Punjab win that game by 9 wickets.
IPL debut & Career
After seeing His standout performances in the 2023 Sher-e-Punjab T20 tournament, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker and played a pivotal role in his team’s championship win, caught the attention of Mumbai Indians’ scouts. Consequently, Mumbai Indians acquired him for ₹30 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
And Ashwani’s IPL debut on March 31, 2025, against Kolkata Knight Riders was remarkable. He dismissed KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane with his very first delivery, becoming the fourth Mumbai Indians bowler to achieve this feat.
He concluded his debut with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 24 runs in three overs, claiming the wickets of Rahane, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey, and Andre Russell. This performance made him the first Indian to take four wickets on IPL debut.
