IPL 2025 to Resume Soon After India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement: First Match Likely on May 16 or 17

Following the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the resumption of IPL 2025 is expected to be announced soon. According to a media report, the tournament may restart on May 16 or 17. The first match upon resumption is likely to be played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). It is worth recalling that the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match scheduled for May 8 had been canceled due to security concerns.

Matches to Be Held Across Four Cities

A report published in Sports Tak suggests that the remaining matches of IPL 2025 will be played in four selected cities. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already informed all franchises and stakeholders about the revised plans.

All franchises have been instructed to call back their overseas players and support staff at the earliest. The LSG squad is expected to regroup by May 13, and other teams are also preparing to assemble and move to the designated venues.

Change in Venue for the Final Match

While earlier plans had Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator set for the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, and Qualifier 2 and the Final in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, there could now be a shift. As per the latest updates, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2, and the Eliminator will remain at their original venues. However, the final might be moved to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, instead of being held in Kolkata.

Most Players Had Returned Home — Except PBKS

Interestingly, all players from the remaining teams had returned to their home countries after the tournament was suspended — except for the Punjab Kings. Their head coach, Ricky Ponting, played a crucial role in convincing the PBKS players to stay back in India during the uncertainty.
