Mark Steketee BBL and Domestic Career
After some impressive performances in Club cricket, Mark Steketee made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut for his team Brisbane Heat on 2nd January 2014 against the Sydney Sixers at the Gabba in Brisbane. He picked up 1 wicket in his 2 overs and gave away just 15 runs.
He played club cricket for Valley District Cricket Club in Brisbane. The following year, Steketee also made his List A debut. He was part of the National Performance Squad and made his debut against touring India A side on 29th July 2014. Steketee went wicketless in that game and gave away 24 runs in his 6 overs.
In 2015, he also made his first-class debut for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield Cup on 16th February 2015 against Tasmania. Mark Steketee was brilliant on his debut and picked up 7 wickets in that game. He picked up 3 wickets in the first innings and 4 wickets in the second innings and played a crucial role in his team’s win.
He caught the eyeballs of the selectors after his impressive show in the 2017-18 JLT One Day Cup. Steketee was part of the Cricket Australia XI team and picked up 5 wickets in his 4 games that season. His first five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket came in 2019 against Tasmania in the 2019-20 Sheffield Shield Cup.
Mark Steketee International Career
After his consistent performances in the Big Bash League, Mark Steketee received his maiden call-up for the national side. In January 2021, he was named in Australia’s Test squad for their series against South Africa.
He was then also named in the squad for Australia’s Test series against Pakistan. Mark Steketee is yet to make his international debut but with his consistent performances year by year, he is not far away from wearing that yellow jersey for his country Australia.
