Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is in the race to receive the prestigious Arjuna Award. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has recommended Shami’s name for the Arjuna Award in view of his strong performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Quoting sources from ANI and some media reports, it has been said that BCCI had made a special request to the Sports Ministry. Earlier Shami’s name was not in this list.

Mohammad Shami will get Arjun Award on the recommendation of BCCI
After his brilliant performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, the selection committee has recommended Shami’s name for this year’s prestigious Arjuna Award. According to media reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had made a special request to the Sports Ministry because earlier Shami’s name was not present in this list.
33 year old Shami impressed with his bowling throughout the year. This right-arm fast bowler continued his golden performance in the World Cup in November. In this ICC tournament, he took 24 wickets at an average of 12.06 and economy rate of 5.68. Not only this, he also became the bowler who took the most wickets in the World Cup.

Shami, who made his international debut in 2013, has so far played 64 Tests, 101 ODIs and 23 T20 International matches. He took a total of 229 wickets in Test, 195 in ODI and 24 wickets in T20 International format. In the World Cup match played against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium, he took 5 wickets for just 18 runs. In the semi-finals, he made New Zealand bat like it broke his back. He gave 57 runs in the match and created havoc by taking 7 wickets.
