WTC: India has started their new cycle of the World Test Championship of 2025 to 2027 during the first Test match at Headingley in Leeds against England, and that too under the leadership of Shubman Gill. This is also the first WTC cycle where Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be available.

India started their new World Test Championship campaign with a loss in the first red ball match. Now in the second Test match, which will be played at Birmingham, Gill and his men will look to bounce back and level the five-match Test series to 1-1. The second Test match will start from Wednesday, 2nd July 2025, to Sunday, 6th July 2025.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

India’s red ball match specialist batter, Ajinkya Rahane, was the one who made India win the Test series in Australia, that too after the whole team was bundle out for 36 runs in the second innings of the 1st match on that tour of Australia. However, Jinx’s inconsistent run in Test format didn’t allow him to cement his place in the red ball side.

Ajinkya was the vice-captain of the Test team once. But now he is playing only the Indian Premier League and he captained the Kolkata Knight Riders team in this season. From 2019 to 2021 WTC cycle, Rahane was the top run getter for India. He scored 1159 runs from 18 games and 30 innings with 3 centuries and 6 half centuries. Jinx had an average of 42.92 and a strike rate of 46.84.

The King was the highest run getter for the Men in Blue in the WTC cycle from 2021 to 2023. Kohli was also the captain of Team India. Virat Kohli had played 17 games and 30 innings. In that, he scored 932 runs with an average of 32.13 and a strike rate of 45.53. Kohli amassed 1 century and 3 half centuries during this cycle of 2021 to 2023 WTC.

3. Yashaswi Jaiswal

The young Indian opening batsman, Yashaswi Jaiswal, had slammed a ton in his first-ever game of Test cricket when he made his debut for India on the tour of the West Indies in 2023. Since then, he has been the first choice opening batter of the Men in Blue. Jaiswal was the second-highest run-getter in the next cycle of the WTC, which was from 2023 to 2025.

Yashaswi is also the highest run scorer for India in this cycle. Jaiswal had scored 1798 runs in 19 red ball matches and 36 innings with an average of 52.88 and a strike rate of 65.66. Yashaswi also slammed four centuries and 10 half-centuries. He also smashed the most sixes in the 2023 to 2025 WTC cycle with 39 maximums. Jaiswal had also hit the most fours. He was the only batter to amass 200 or more boundaries in this period. Yashaswi scored 207 fours. He also smashed the two back to back double centuries in the season of the WTC 2023 to 2025 and he has started the new WTC cycle with a ton agaisnt England at Leeds.
