Last year in September, a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint against Sandeep Lamichhane at a police station in Kathmandu. The girl had accused him of rape. At the time of the allegation, Sandeep was in the West Indies, playing for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
After a warrant was issued for Sandeep’s arrest, he went into hiding, and his location was untraceable. The Nepal Police sought Interpol’s assistance in apprehending Sandeep. He was eventually arrested in the year 2023.
In January 2024, a Kathmandu court delivered its verdict, sentencing him to 8 years in prison along with compensation and fines. However, in May 2024, he was proven innocent by the court and was honorably acquitted.
