Shimron Hetmyer Profile
Shimron Hetmyer was born on 26 December 1996 in Cumberland, Guyana. His father Gladston Hetmyer and mother Ingrid Hetmyer have been his all-time support. Shimron’s brother, Seon Hetmyer, used to play cricket at Young Warriors Club. Shimron soon started to accompany him by the age of 6. By about 11 years of age, he had got acquainted with the game thoroughly.
The left-handed batsman completed his education from Rose Hall Estate Primary school, Guyana. And also his secondary education from Berbice High School, New Amsterdam, Guyana.
The early career of Shimron Hetmyer
The Guyanese guy started his journey with cricket by playing at Young Warriors Cricket Club, Berbice. The young Hettie made his T20 debut in 2016 Carribean premier league for Guyana Amazon Warriors. But He left the pitch quite early than expected.
Odilon captained the West Indies U19 team during 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He contributed two 50s to his side and led it to victory. The team brought the Cup home.
Later he made his test debut during TRI series against Pakistan on 21st April 2017. The left-handed batsmen soon made his ODI debut against New Zealand in December 2017.
In a short period, he made it to all the international matches. In January 2018, Odilon made his T20I debut against New Zealand.
Shimron made his first ODI century against the United Arab Emirates during March 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. He was honoured as Man of the Match for his contribution.
In August 2018, he again played for the CPL. October was still an opportunistic period for the young player as Cricket West Indies offered him a Red Ball Contract for season 18-19.
In Dec 2018, Shimron was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Indian Premier League, 2019. He proved his place in the squad by hitting 75 runs in just 47 balls against SunRisers Hyderabad. It was a spectacular match to watch. Hettie also built an extraordinary 4th wicket partnership with Gurkeerat Mann securing together with a total of 144 runs.
Due to his consistently improving game, he has also included in 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup squad. Wherein, he scored the fastest fifty in just 25 balls against Bangladesh.
Hetmyer also completed 1000 ODI runs with a record of third-fastest half-century by a West Indian in the history of the quadrennial event.
He also built an outstanding partnership of 89 runs at the 4th wicket against England with the great Nicholas Pooran.
Under his captainship, West Indies won its first U-19 World Cup against Bangladesh in 2016.
During 2018 CPL, he became the youngest batsman to score a century in the league.
Berbice also honoured him by the Sportsman of the year award back in 2018.
ICC also acknowledged Hetmyer as one among the five breaks out stars in Men’s Cricket 2018.
His exceptional performance at 2019 Cricket World Cup also made him jump into the list of 5 exciting World Cup debuts.
