In the 3 encounters between these two teams in this season, Stars won one match, and Sixers won two games.

Sydney Sixers:

Sydney Sixers also had a great time this season as they won 9 out of 14 matches and sealed the 2nd spot on the points table with a total of 19 points.

In the Qualifier match, batting first Sixers struggled to score runs. They had a slow start to the innings. They scored 43 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. After the power play, Sixers lost two quick wickets in successive overs. Josh Philippe ended up with a decent knock scoring 34 runs in 28 balls. Key Player Steve Smith also failed to impress. He scored 24 runs in 18 balls. Captain Henriques also was unable to impress. With decent batting performance, Sixers scored 142-7 in their 20 overs.

Defending 142, Sixers had a great start with the ball. Dwarshuis picked up the wicket of in-form batsman Stoinis in the 3rd over of the innings. Later Sean Abbott and Josh Hazlewood also picked up wickets in two overs. They were bowling tight lengths and weren’t allowing the batsmen to score runs and kept the same pressure from start till the end. All the bowlers were exceptional with the ball. Every bowler picked up a wicket. Lyon and Dwarshuis picked up one wicket each, Hazlewood and Okeefe picked up two each and Abbott picked up three wickets. Overall all the bowlers bowled well and got Sixers to the winning zone. They bowled out Stars for 99 and won the match by 43 runs.

The Final between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers can be expected to be a thriller because both the teams have some big names on their side. Both teams won their last matches and would be aiming for the Big Bash title.

Melbourne Stars:

Melbourne Stars played brilliantly and finished on the top of the points table by winning 10 out of the 14 matches and with a total of 20 points. They were the 1st team to qualify for playoffs.

In the last match, batting first, Stars lost the wicket of Maddinson in 4th over. But Nick Larkin and in form batsman Marcus Stoinis batted beautifully and steadied the innings. They made 117 run partnership for the second wicket. Both the batsmen scored half-centuries and kept the momentum going for the Stars. Both the batsmen scored 83 runs. Stoinis got out in the 17th over of the innings scoring 83 in 54 balls. Later, Nick Larkin scored well to finish the innings with a total. Stars scored 194-2 in their 20 overs.

Defending 194, Stars started well by picking a wicket in the 3rd over of the innings. Great fielding effort from Nathan Coulter Nile gifted the wicket of in-form batsman Alex Hales in the form of a runout. Counter Nile was excellent with the ball too. He picked up the wicket of Khawaja in 5th over of the innings. Later, Haris Rauf also picked up a wicket in the very next over. Adam Zampa was expensive but picked up two crucial wickets in his four overs. He gave away 43 runs. Counter Nile and Zampa picked up two wickets each. Haris Rauf was the star bowler as he picked up 3 wickets and gave only 17 runs in his 4 overs. Maxwell, Stoinis, Worrall, and Hinchliffe went wicketless. Nick Larkin was awarded as the Player of the match. Overall with a decent bowling performance, Stars won the game and qualified for the Final.
