STA vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Preview: Challenger, BBL 2019-20

Melbourne Stars will take on Sydney Thunder in the Challenger match of Big Bash League 2019-20 at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. We will provide STA vs THU Dream11 Prediction, Match Preview, and Probable Playing XI of the match.

These two teams have already played twice against each other this season and Melbourne Stars won both the times.

Melbourne Stars:

Melbourne Stars played brilliantly and finished on the top of the points table by winning 10 out of the 14 matches and with a total of 20 points. They were the 1st team to qualify for playoffs.

In the Qualifier match, bowling first, Stars bowled really well and didn’t give any free runs. All the bowlers were good enough to restrict the opposition from scoring runs. Key bowler Adam Zampa bowled some very good overs. He picked up a wicket in his first over. Pakistani pacer Harris Rauf also bowled really well. Even the picked up a wicket in his first over. Counter Nile and Maxwell also bowled well. Zampa picked up 3 wickets and gave only 21 runs in his 4 overs, Counter Nile, Maxwell, Stoinis and Harris Rauf picked up 1 wicket each. With the overall good bowling performance Stars restricted the opposition to 142 runs.

With 143 to chase, Stars had a very bad start. Early in the innings, leading run-scorer of the league, Marcus Stoinis got out for 5 runs in 3rd over. Stars were not able to steady the innings and hence they lost two more wickets in the next two overs. Top-order failed very badly and the only hope for the Stars was Captain Glenn Maxwell. Even he didn’t last long at the crease.

Not a single batsman scored runs with the bat. As a result, they were bowled out for 99 with 2 overs to spare.

They would be hoping to get back to their winning ways by winning the challenger match and fix their place in the final.

Sydney Thunder:

Sydney Thunder somehow managed to seal their spot at 5th position in the points table by winning 6 out of 14 matches with a total of 13 points (including with a no-result point).

In the knockout match, batting 1st Thunder didn’t start well. They lost the early wicket of in-form batsman Usman Khawaja. Captain Callum Ferguson also failed to impress with the bat. Hard Hitter Alex Hales and Alex Ross steadied the innings. Later Alex Hales got out in Rashid Khan over and the rest of the batsmen were also struggling score runs. Alex Hales 59 runs helped thunder to put 151 on the board with the loss of 7 wickets.

Defending 151 runs, Thunder had a good start. They got a breakthrough in 5th over. Chris Tremain brought the early wicket but was expensive. Key bowlers Jonathan Cook and Chris Morris bowled really well to restrict the batsmen. Both picked up two wickets each. And the leading wicket-taker Daniel Sams once again impressed with the ball. He picked 4 wickets and gave 26 runs in his 4 overs. Good performance with the ball helped Thunders to win over the Strikers and advanced for the Challenger against Stars.

They would be hoping to keep the streak by winning this match against Melbourne Stars and enter the finals.
