Alex Carey BBL and Domestic Career
Alex Carey started his career as a specialist top-order batsman in grade cricket but he couldn’t continue his form. He still managed to get a contract from South Australia in 2013-2014, where he developed his wicketkeeping skill and also moved down the order as a batsman. This helped him in getting more opportunities to be a part of the playing XI and become a better batsman.
In 2015-2016, Carey performed brilliantly in the grade cricket and this got him a call-up for Sheffield Shield. He later got his first senior contract for South Australia in the 2016-2017 season.
Alex Carey made his BBL debut for Adelaide Strikers on 18th January 2017 against Sydney Thunder. He batted at No.7 in the debut game but did not get enough balls to play and played only one game in that season. In the very next season, he smashed 443 runs which included a century and two fifties.
Alex Carey International Cricket Career
Carey’s brilliant performance in both wicketkeeping and batting in the Sheffield Sheild made the selectors pick him in the Australian ODI squad for the series against England in 2018.
Test debut
In the Ashes 2021-22, Alex Carey made his Test debut but scored only 21 runs. The result was in the favor of Australia as they won the match comfortably by nine wickets. He scored a total of 183 runs at an average of 20.33 in that series.
He has played a total of eight Test Matches and scored a total of 362 runs at an average of 30.16 which includes three fifties.
ODI debut
Alex Carey made his ODI debut for Australia on 19th January 2018 against England. He batted at No.8 in his debut ODI and scored 27 runs from 24 balls. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, Carey performed brilliantly, scoring 375 runs at an average of 62.50 and a strike rate of 104.17.
So far, he has played 34 ODIs and has scored 1417 runs at an average of 35.42 which consists of one century and six half-centuries.
T20I debut
After his ODI debut, Alex Carey made his T20I debut the very next month when Australia played a T20I tri-series with England and New Zealand. He scored only six runs in the entire series as he did not get much chance to bat.
Carey has not been able to perform well in the T20Is so far as he scored only 233 runs in 38 matches at an average of 11.10.
