Axar Patel (born 20 Jan 1994) is an Indian Cricketer who plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

Axar Patel Domestic Career
Patel played just one first-class match in his debut season for Gujarat but had a more successful domestic season in 2013. Patel played a key role to win India Under-23s’ title in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2013; he picked up seven wickets in the tournament including a four-wicket haul in the semi-final against UAE.
Patel gave Gujarat consistent performances in 2013-2014 Ranji Trophy and ended the season by scoring 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and picked up 29 wickets. After his successful performance in the 2013-14 Ranji season, he was named the BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the year 2012/13 season.
In the second Ranji match, against Delhi in November 2013, Patel ended his spell with 6 for 55 in the first innings. This was his first five-wicket haul and is still a memorable match for him.
He was then selected in the India Red team for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy in August 2019. In October 2019, he was also named in India C team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
Axar Patel’s International Career
After his consist performances in the 2014 IPL season, Patel was named in the Indian ODI squad for the tour to Bangladesh, and he also made his ODI debut in the first match of the series against Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and ended his bowling spell with the figures of 1/59 in 10 overs.
He was then selected for the five-match ODI series against West Indies. Axar did not play in the first three matches but played in the 4th ODI where he impressed everyone with his bowling as he only conceded 26 runs and picked up 2 wickets in his 10 overs. He was then a part of the 15 men squad for the 5 matches ODI series against Sri Lanka where he got to play all the five matches and picked up 11 wickets in five matches and scored 31 runs at a strike rate of 178.
A Patel made his Twenty20 International debut for India on 17 July 2015 against Zimbabwe.
Patel was also named in India’s 15-men squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup to play in Australia. Patel was also named a stand-by player for India in the 2019 Cricket World Cup played in England.
Axar Patel’s IPL Career
After his brilliant performances in the domestic season, he was picked up by Mumbai Indians for the 2013 IPL Season.
Patel had an excellent season for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2014 where he picked up 17 wickets. He was then named the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ for his brilliant performance in the 2014 IPL Season.
The Kings XI Punjab retained Axar Patel for the 2015 IPL season for his impressive performance in the Kings’ 2014 IPL season. Batting as a finisher, Patel was able to score 206 runs for the Kings XI Punjab in 2015 IPL season and take wickets.
During a match against the Gujarat Lions on 1 May 2016, He created a record by picking four wickets in five balls, it was the first (and only) hat-trick of the 2016 IPL edition, to pave the way for Kings XI Punjab’s 23-run win against table-toppers Gujarat Lions in Rajkot.
Kings XI Punjab again retained Patel for the 2018 IPL season. In December 2018, he was then bought by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League Season.
Axar Patel Unknown Facts
- His real name is Akshar. Since his school principal had misspelt his name as ‘Axar’ in the school leaving certificate, he was then known as ‘Axar’.
- Patel was actually not interested in becoming a cricketer, and he always wanted to become an engineer.
- Axar’s Father wanted Axar to become a cricketer, and he forced him to play cricket. His father used to look on his white clothes to observe how much hard work he is doing in the cricket nets.
- His friend named Dhiren Kansara also helped him a lot in his early cricketing days. When Axar was in ninth grade, he was convinced by him to play in the Inter-school cricket tournament.
- Axar Patel idolises Yuvraj Singh and has a dream to bat like him one day.
