Also, Niroshan Dickwella scored 33 runs and was supported by late cameos from Udana and Shanaka to take the team to a good total of 174. Kiwi skipper Tim Southee was the pick among bowlers taking two scalps while Mitchell Santner took one wicket.

In chasing the target, New Zealand top-order failed to give a good start and were limping on 39/3 on the board. Ross Taylor and Colin De Grandhomme stabilized the innings scoring 48 and 44 runs respectively. Daryl Mitchell and Santner also made handy contributions to ensure victory for the visitors. T20 Specialist Malinga along with debutant Wanidu Hasaranga bowled good spells taking two wickets each in losing cause for their team.

Sri Lanka will be eager to bounce back and keep series alive defeating New Zealand whereas Kiwis will want to continue the winning momentum ahead and seal the series in the second T20I.

Shehan Jayasuriya is a right spin all-rounder and can be equally effective in either of the departments. He will bat in the lower order and will bowl fewer overs.

Primary Options: Colin De Grandhomme, Isuru Udana, Dasun Shanaka, M Santner, Daryl Mitchell.

Colin De Grandhomme has performed well in recent times. He scored 44 runs in the last match after getting promotion in the batting order. He also starred in the second test and is a must pick in NZ vs SL Dream11 team.
